Use case

photograph a chart each week to see if it is improving

Most dashboards require you to remember what the number was last week, or to screenshot and compare manually, or to export data and build your own tracking. Nexy lets you photograph the screen whenever you check it, reads the trend from the image, and tells you whether it is improving without you writing anything down.

You photograph a chart or dashboard whenever you check it, and Nexy tells you whether the line has moved in the direction you want since last time. It reads the direction from the photo, compares it to previous images, and says when it cannot tell — and anyone you share the thread with installs nothing and makes no account.

Try this in Nexy, freeStarts on the web. The other person installs nothing.

What it looks like

Nexy reads the direction from each photo and says whether the trend changed, so you don't have to remember what it looked like before.

How to do it

  1. Send a photo of the chart, dashboard, or graph you want to track in a chat with Nexy.
  2. Nexy reads the trend from the image and confirms it has recorded the first reading.
  3. The next time you check the dashboard, send another photo in the same thread.
  4. Nexy compares the new image to the previous one and tells you whether the line moved up, down, or stayed flat.
  5. Anyone in the thread sees the updates, and they install nothing and make no account.

Why it works

No manual note-takingYou send a photo when you look at the dashboard. There is no spreadsheet to update, no number to write down, and no need to remember what it said last time.
Plain-language directionNexy says whether the line went up, down, or stayed flat. It does not extract exact numbers or build a new chart — it reads the trend you can see and tells you if it changed.
Works on any screenAnalytics dashboards, fitness apps, sales reports, weight graphs on a bathroom scale display — anything with a line or a number that changes over time. Nexy reads the photo, not the underlying data.
Says when it cannot tellIf the photo is blurry, the chart is too small, or the axis labels are missing, Nexy tells you immediately. It does not guess or store a reading it is not confident about.
Shared with your teamEveryone in the thread sees the photos and the direction updates, and they install nothing. One person sends the photo, everyone gets the context.

Where it stops

Nexy compares the direction of a line, not the precision of a data pipeline.

No automatic screenshotsYou send the photo when you check the dashboard — Nexy does not connect to your analytics tool or take screenshots automatically, because most dashboards require a login it does not have.
No exact number extractionIt tells you the direction, not the precise value, because reading a trend from an image is reliable but reading a five-digit number from a photo of a screen introduces error.
No threshold alertsNexy does not notify you when a number crosses a specific target, because setting thresholds means defining goals it has no context for — it only says whether the line moved.
No chart recreationIt compares photos, it does not build a new graph or store the underlying data, because that would mean becoming the dashboard rather than helping you track the one you already have.
No multi-metric comparisonEach thread tracks one chart, not a whole dashboard with six panels, because comparing multiple lines in one image reliably means knowing which metric you care about and that varies by context.

Questions people ask

How does Nexy read a chart from a photo of my screen and know whether the line is going up or down without connecting to the actual dashboard?

You send a photo of the chart in a chat. Nexy reads the shape and direction of the line from the image using the same recognition that reads text or objects from any photo, records it with the date, and compares it to the previous photo you sent. When the trend changes — up, down, or flat — it tells you in plain language. If the image is too blurry or the chart is unclear, it says so immediately rather than guessing.

What happens if I forget to photograph the dashboard for a few weeks, does Nexy still compare the next photo or does it need regular weekly images?

It works with whatever frequency you manage. Send a photo every day, every week, or whenever you happen to check the dashboard. Nexy compares each new photo to the previous one, so gaps do not break the comparison. The more frequently you send images, the more granular the feedback, but irregular photos are better than no photos at all.

Can I use this to track a fitness app on my phone or does it only work for dashboards on a computer screen?

It works for any chart or graph you can photograph: fitness apps, weight trackers, sleep graphs, step counters, sales dashboards on a laptop, printed reports, or even a chart taped to a wall. Nexy reads the trend from the image, so the device or format does not matter as long as the line or number is visible in the photo.

Does Nexy extract the exact numbers from the chart or does it just tell me whether the line went up or down compared to before?

It tells you the direction, not the exact values. Reading whether a line is climbing, falling, or flat from an image is reliable. Reading a precise number from a photo of a screen — especially with glare, angles, or small fonts — introduces error. If you need the exact figure, your dashboard already shows it. Nexy tells you whether it moved since last time.

What if the dashboard layout changes or the chart moves to a different position on the screen, does that break the comparison?

Nexy reads the trend from the chart itself, not the position on the screen, so layout changes do not break the comparison. If the chart is still visible in the photo and the axis labels are readable, it works. If the dashboard redesign makes the chart unreadable or removes the metric entirely, Nexy will say it cannot tell and you send a clearer photo next time.

Can I share this with my team so everyone sees whether the numbers are improving, or is it just for me?

Anyone in the thread sees the photos and the direction updates, and they install nothing and make no account. You send the photo, Nexy says whether the line moved, and everyone in the chat gets the context. If someone replies or asks a question, it stays in the same thread so the whole conversation is in one place.

Does Nexy store the photos of my dashboard or just the direction of the line, and who can see them later?

The photos stay in the thread, visible to everyone in that thread, the same way any photo you send in a chat is visible to the participants. Nexy does not send the images anywhere else or show them to people outside the thread. If you delete the thread, the photos are gone. It does not build a separate archive or export the images to another system.

What happens if I send a photo of a different chart halfway through, does Nexy get confused or does it know I switched metrics?

One agreement per thread, so one chart per thread. If you want to track a different metric, start a new thread. That way each thread has a clear history and can actually end when you stop tracking that number. Mixing charts in one thread means losing the comparison over time, which is the entire point.
