Use case
Arrange for someone to collect an altered garment before an event
You have a garment being altered and need someone to collect it because you cannot reach the shop yourself before an event. One trusted person volunteers to pick up the specific item and deliver it to you at an agreed time and place.
Use one Nexy thread for one agreement: I will collect your altered dress from the tailor on Thursday afternoon and bring it to your house by six o'clock that evening. The other person receives a message in the chat they already use, without installing anything or creating an account; reminders stop for a task that is already done.
Try this in Nexy, freeStarts on the web. The other person installs nothing.
What it looks like
YouCan you collect my altered navy dress from Clarke's tailoring on Market Street on Thursday afternoon and bring it to me by six? I need it for Friday's wedding and I'm working late all week.
ThemYes, I can do that. I'll pick it up Thursday after lunch and drop it to your house around half five. Can you send me the collection reference and what name it's under?
NexyOne agreement: I will collect your altered dress from the tailor on Thursday afternoon and bring it to your house by six o'clock that evening.
ThemI've collected your navy dress from Clarke's and left it with your flatmate Sarah at your front door twenty minutes ago. It's in the garment bag with your name on the ticket.
NexyDone. There will be no more reminders for this completed task.
An example of people making one clear agreement and confirming when it is done.
How to do it
- Start one Nexy thread for the agreement. Confirm with the tailor that the garment is ready and note the collection reference, shop address, opening hours and any specific collection instructions they have given you.
- Ask one trusted person if they can collect the item on a specific day, explaining what the garment is, where the shop is located, and when you need it delivered. The other person receives a message in the chat they already use and needs no new account.
- Share the collection reference, the name the order is under, the shop address with any parking or access notes, and a description of the item so they can check they have the right garment.
- Agree exactly when and where they will hand the garment to you, including a backup plan if either of you is delayed or the shop has not finished the work. A reminder is most useful while you could still act, usually the evening before.
- Once they deliver the garment, check it immediately while they are still present so any urgent issues can be reported to the tailor together if needed. Once the task is done, there are no more reminders for that completed task.
Why it works
Where it stops
Keep the agreement narrow and let the people involved make the decisions.
Questions people ask
What information does the collector need before going to the shop?
They need the shop name and full address, the collection reference or ticket number, the name the order is under, a description of the garment so they can verify it, and the shop opening hours. If there are specific parking restrictions or the shop entrance is hard to find, include those details. Mention if the tailor said to ask for a particular person or if any payment might still be needed, though usually alterations are paid in advance.
How do I describe the garment clearly enough for someone else to collect it?
State the type of garment, its colour, and any distinctive features such as beading, a particular neckline, or fabric pattern. For example, navy silk dress with cap sleeves or grey wool trousers with turn-ups. Include the original reason for alteration if it helps identification, such as hemmed to knee length. This lets the collector confirm they have the correct item when the tailor brings it out, especially if multiple orders are ready.
What if the garment is not ready when the collector arrives?
Agree in advance what the collector should do if this happens. They might ask the tailor when it will be ready and whether they can return later that day, or they contact you immediately so you can decide the next step. If the occasion is very soon, you may need to collect it yourself another way or ask a different person to try later. Make sure the collector knows not to feel obliged to wait for hours if the tailor cannot give a firm time.
Should the collector check the garment before leaving the shop?
If possible, yes. Ask them to check the alteration looks complete and there are no obvious issues like missing buttons, unfinished hems, or stains from the work. They do not need to assess the quality of tailoring in detail, but noticing something clearly wrong while still at the shop means it can be raised immediately. If the garment is in a sealed bag and the shop is busy, a quick visual check when they reach the car is reasonable.
Where should the handover happen if I cannot be home?
Choose a specific location you both know, with a clear time window. This could be your workplace entrance, a particular café, a friend's house, or even a street corner you both recognise. If leaving it with someone else at your home, confirm that person will definitely be there and knows to expect the delivery. Avoid vague instructions like outside your building, because that risks the garment being left unattended or taken by mistake. Be precise about the exact spot.
What if the collector gets delayed and cannot deliver on time?
They should let you know as soon as they realise there will be a delay, explaining the new estimated delivery time. You can then decide whether to wait, meet them partway, or arrange a different collection point. If the delay means you will not have the garment in time for your event, you may need to ask another person to collect it from them, or adjust your plans. Knowing early gives you more options than discovering the problem an hour before you need it.
Can someone else collect the garment if the original volunteer cannot go?
Yes, as long as you tell the new collector all the same details: collection reference, name on the order, shop address and description of the garment. Let the tailor know if their system requires it, though most shops only need the reference and will release the item to whoever presents it. Make sure the new person also knows the agreed delivery time and place, so you are not waiting for someone who is no longer coming. Update everyone involved about the change of plan.
How do I make sure the garment reaches me in good condition?
Ask the collector to keep it in the garment bag or wrapping the tailor provides, and to transport it flat or hung if possible rather than folded in a boot under shopping. If they are travelling by public transport or bicycle, a large bag that keeps the garment flat helps avoid creasing. When they deliver it, check the garment immediately while they are still with you, so if there is any damage from transit or an error from the tailor, you can both see it and decide what to do next.
